Lore
Sent by his tribe to be an aide to a certain king. Or rather, that is how he was convinced to leave the nest--his staying grounded whilst his king soared was causing him to have a type of cabin fever. He wants to follow his given mission with complete seriousness, but since this is his first time outside his village, he has a childlike wonder about the world that takes over--it happens quite often.
He always tries to act like a serious man, but when people break through that front, he is an endlessly curious young man. He can get rather intense with his questions which makes it seem like he is interrogating them, so people often try to stay away, afraid that he is angry when in fact the opposite is the case.
The baby griffin always with him is a reminder of his first battle--fending off people who were trying to kill the parent. Unfortunately, the poachers succeeded, but he was able to save the hatchling. The hatchling views him as its father.
The mask he wears hides a wound from that battle--it also helps keep his breathing regular. Without it, he would be short of breath and would start hyperventilating should he be caught off guard. He can live without it, just not comfortably.
